Missed Connections and Location Privacy: How to Share Respectfully

A meaningful encounter can be worth remembering. But giving someone a chance to reconnect should never turn them into a public search target.

Write about your experience, not their identity

Describe your own impression, the shared topic or why you appreciated a conversation. Avoid physical identifiers that would allow strangers to locate the person, including close-up photos, detailed clothing descriptions, unique tattoos, badge names or workplace details. A good missed-connection post invites a voluntary response rather than asking the public to identify someone.

Keep the location general

The city or broad public area is usually sufficient. A story about a café afternoon in Barcelona does not need a map pin on the exact table, a minute-by-minute timetable or a record of which direction someone walked. Precise personal movement information can expose people to unwanted attention even if every detail seems harmless on its own.

Never publish someone else’s contact details

Do not include their Instagram handle, email address, phone number or a link to a personal profile. Even a correct contact might attract unwanted followers or messages. Crosia is designed to keep contact details private and allow approved, email-verified responses. The people involved decide whether to exchange information; no one else should decide for them.

Choose a photo that tells the place’s story

If you upload an image, prefer scenery, the public venue, a drink or your own belongings. Do not upload an identifiable stranger without their permission. Crosia allows one image per post and re-encodes uploaded images to remove embedded metadata, but it cannot undo every privacy risk visible in the picture itself. Review signs, receipts, documents and faces before submitting.

Keep responses voluntary

Someone may not remember the encounter, may not feel the same way or may simply prefer not to reconnect. That choice must be respected. Do not repost repeatedly, mobilise other people to search for them or treat an unanswered message as a clue that they need to be found. A shared memory is not permission to contact or follow someone.

What private email verification means

On Crosia, the poster and responder use email confirmation, and submitted messages wait for moderation. That is an anti-spam step, not a proof of identity. Someone could still misrepresent who they are. Do not send money, personal documents or sensitive information because a person claims to be from an earlier encounter. Contact sharing should happen only with both people’s express consent.

When to remove a post

Remove your story if the person asks, if it attracts unwanted attention or if the context changes. The platform also expires posts after a limited period. If a post identifies or endangers someone, use the report option or contact support for review. The goal is a respectful second chance—not a permanent public record of someone else.
